Los Angeles (LA) Urban Kiz Kizomba Semba Meetup

This is a MeetUp for all those excited about Urban Kiz, Kizomba (and Semba) in Southern California and around the globe!

Kizomba (a Kimbundu word meaning party) is both a style of music, and a beautiful partner dance, developed in Portuguese-speaking Africa from the late 1980’s to early 1990’s. Kizomba music, born as a fusion of African rhythms and Caribbean Zouk, is a romantic genre of music generally sung in Portuguese. 

For those who have never danced, Kizomba is easily accessible. The basics are simple. For those who are currently dancing partner dances such as salsa, bachata, tango, and merengue, Kizomba is a breath of fresh air. You’ll find it comfortable to slip into, and challenging enough to keep you dancing it for years to come.

Today it is rare to find a Latin dance party without Kizomba being represented. Kizomba continues to conquer a growing audience of passionate dancers eager to experience the beauty, communication through closeness, and complex dynamics of the dance.
