In Cali, Colombia, the salsa capital of the world, I took an improvised salsa class in a little dive bar as a singer sang love ballads. In Istanbul, Turkey, I was given the opportunity to explore excavated subterranean rooms with depictions of the Virgin Mary and Jesus. In Patras, Greece, I was invited to a family’s home and enjoyed dinner as I played with the younger children. In Omaha, Nebraska, I listened attentively as I learned about the trek of former slaves who escaped to Canada and their descendants who later came into the Great Plains region as did the thousands of Mexicans who came for work in the 1950s and 1960s.
Exploring different cultures and simply enjoying a conversation with someone different from myself have shaped my life and hopefully, if you are reading this, it has also changed yours.
This group is for those who are serious about traveling and learning about other cultures, as well as exploring the different cultures, foods, and beliefs found right here in Philadelphia.
Everyone is welcome as long as you are willing to meet, engage with others, and learn something new.
See you soon.
