This is a group for anyone interested in contra dancing to excellent live music. On the first Sunday of every month excluding July, August and September, we dance at the Arden Gild Hall from 2:30 to 5:30. There is a lesson for new dancers at 2:00.
Contra dance is a social dance done in long lines. There is a caller, like in square dancing, so you don't need to make up any dance moves, although you can if you want. You do not need any experience or a partner to come dance with us! Everyone is very friendly, and experienced dancers enjoy dancing with new dancers. It's all about having fun, appreciating the music and the community. Everyone helps everyone else and there are dancers from 8 to 80, and sometimes more or less. Dress is casual - twirly skirts are fun, but really, people wear whatever they want. Wear shoes that you feel comfortable dancing in. Sneakers, tennis shoes, dance shoes and flats are all excellent choices.
The dance is accessible by transit - just an 8 minute ride from the Claymont SEPTA train station.
