A monthly meeting place for aspiring or already capable ballroom dancers to meet. There is also some Latin and jive. Guests are encouraged to wear elegant and romantic evening dress, preferably black tie for men and in 1930s style. The aim is to improve our dance skills, and enjoy dancing on a wooden floor to vintage records and a live band- and drink tea, eat light Indian food and socially interact in a relaxed and romantic setting on a Friday night. There is a beginner's ballroom class from 7pm to 7.30pm for those who wish to do it.
Club members must agree to buy at least one ticket and attend at least one dance a year, and the cheapest tickets are £15 (for early bird tickets). Standard tickets are £20 or it's £25 on the door. We encourage members to buy annual pass which is £120 (or £200 for a couple) for twelve consecutive dances. If you can't attend some of the dances, you may lend your pass to a friend for him or her to use that evening. You can buy these passes on the door for cash at one of the dances, or you can pay by Pay Pal or bank transfer, and arrange it on line. Phone George Tudor-Hart on 020 8542 1490 to arrange this, or better, please write to or e-mail
The music played is linked to the period of the golden era of the dance, so we play mainly twenties music for Charleston, and tango, thirties music for quickstep, slow foxtrot and waltz, forties for swing, fifties for jive, rumba and so on. Our resident vocalist is the young operatic baritone Alistair Sutherland. And we book orchestras once a month, usually the Art Deco Orchestra or the Ewan Bleach Quintet
Members have the option to suggest and submit records to play and act as male or female taxi dancers, work on the door and may also assist with administration and promotions on a volunteer basis, but only if they so choose
Our current venue is the Indian YMCA in the beautiful Fitzroy Square, London W1T 6AQ. Their ballroom has a large dance floor, stage, and we have been there for two years. We started these monthly dances nearly five years ago at the London Welsh Centre near Kings Cross. And have slowly but surely become increasingly well known to the social ballroom dance world over this time
Tickets for the monthly balls are £15 for early bird tickets (the first thirty tickets sold), £20 for regular tickets or it's £25 on the door. This is the link to buy tickets
